Mombasa to Tsavo West & Tsavo East Safari!
Explore Kenya’s biggest, oldest and most legendary parks! It’s an easy drive from your beach resort to the massive red soil plains of Tsavo east and its great elephant herds. It’s an even shorter drive over to the scenic rolling hills and lush green springs of neighboring Tsavo West. A promise of two days of adventurous game drives tracking hunters and grazers.
Itinerary:
Day 1
Mombasa – Tsavo east (Approx. 3 hours)
The safari begins with a pickup at your beach hotel or at the Mombasa port. We’ll take the Mombasa – Nairobi Highway, viewing farmlands and Kenya countryside along the way. As you pass through the gates of Tsavo East National Park, watch for the wildlife on the reserve’s rugged savannah, but especially keep an eye out for the great herds of elephants who like to roll in the red soil here. We’ll enjoy some big advantages in our game spotting as we head to the attractive Aruba Dam, a man-made structure that has created a vibrant reservoir. Great populations of the park’s wildlife come here for the life-sustaining water.
Also, at the Kanderi marsh area, we’ll be looking for the pride of lions that reside near this green oasis. Other species such as elephants and giraffe seek nourishment here. We shall have lunch in one of the hotels before proceeding to Tsavo west. As we depart the reserve for nearby Tsavo west national park, we’ll keep our eyes out for more big game and over 500 species of birds that fill the reserve.
Soon we’ll come upon the massive savannah at Tsavo West, accented with volcanic remnants and lush green areas. We’ll head to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary and carefully explore the area, looking for the shy elusive rhinos that live in this protected enclosure.
Overnight at your pre-booked Tsavo west safari lodge/ tented camp.
Day 2
TSAVO WEST – MOMBASA (Approx. 3 hours)
We have lots to see today so it’s an early rise, along with the sun and the wildlife. We’ll head out on our dawn game drive as we observe the animals emerging from the bush in the awakening light – all of us sharing great expectations for the coming day.
After breakfast, we’ll take a break from the rugged terrain of the park and travel to Mzima Springs, a lush watering hole fed by a clear torrent of underground waters. This is one of the few places we can leave our safari vehicle and step out amongst palm-lined shores. It should be easy to spot the aquatic life here – hippos, crocodiles, exotic fish and birds. This verdant watering hole also attracts the park’s other thirsty citizens such as zebra, giraffe and lots of monkeys.
We’ll fill out the rest of our stay with more adventurous game drives before finally exiting the park. Now it’s time to head back to the Kenya coast. You’ll arrive back at your hotel or resort in the late afternoon with tales of wondrous animal spotting. Thank you for letting us be your safari hosts!
